The Line: St. Louis Cardinals -116 / Milwaukee Brewers +106 --- Over/Under: 8.5
Out at Busch Stadium on Sunday, the Milwaukee Brewers and the St. Louis Cardinals will be finishing up their MLB set.
In the Friday opener, the Cards took a 5-2 win, then on Saturday St. Louis kept it going with a 7-2 victory.
For the Sunday matchup, the Brewers will be rolling with Jhoulys Chacin in the start. Over his 145.0 innings and 12-4 record this year, Chacin has a 3.72 ERA with 119 Ks and 55 BBs.
Christian Yelich leads the way for the Brewers in hitting this year with 133 hits, 83 runs, 18 homers and 60 RBI entering the weekend. On Saturday, Yelich posted a solo homer.
As for the Cards, they’re going with John Gant on Sunday. In his 74.2 innings and 5-4 mark this season, Gant has a 3.74 ERA with 65 Ks and 31 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Cards this season is Marcell Ozuna, with 127 hits, 49 runs, 14 homers and 66 RBI coming into the weekend. On Saturday, Ozuna put up a solo homer with two runs.
The Brewers are 5-16 in their last 21 Sunday games and 3-14 in their last 17 in game three of a series. Milwaukee is also 4-1 in Chacin’s last five starts and 11-4 in his last 15 starts with four days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Cards are 5-0 in their last five in game three of a series and 4-9 in Gant’s last 13 starts. St. Louis is also 2-5 in Gant’s last seven home starts and 1-4 in his last five starts with four days’ rest.
After an eight-earned effort in 4.1 innings against the Dodgers, Chacin has calmed down with two straight quality starts and three earned in 13.0 innings. As for Gant he coughed up six earned in 4.0 innings in Pittsburgh but since then has two earned in 11.1 innings over two starts. This should be a pretty good matchup, but I trust Chacin just a bit more right now. Still, I’ll go Cards in a tight one, and the under looks nice too.
