St. Louis, Missouri
St. Louis Cardinals -137 / Pittsburgh Pirates +127 O/U: 8.5
The Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals will meet up on the MLB diamond to continue their series Friday.
In the Thursday opener between these teams, the Cardinals scored five runs in both the fourth and six innings. When the dust settled, it was a 17-4 Cards win.
For Friday’s game, the Pirates will be rolling out Trevor Williams in the start. In his 1-1 record and 3.74 ERA so far this year, Williams has 32 strikeouts.
The Pirates seared a paltry 10 hits to the Cardinals’ 16 on Thursday. Gregory Ploanco managed a double and a homer among his three runs and three hits for Pitt however.
Over on the Cardinals’ side, they’re going with Adam Wainwright in the start Friday. In a 3-3 record and a 4.71 ERA this year, Wainwright has 29 Ks to his name.
It’s tough to nail down an MVP for the Cardinals’ Thursday stomp, but Yadier Molina posted three hits, three runs and two RBI on the niht.
The Pirates are 5-2 in their last seven overall and 5-2 in their last seven versus the NL Central. Pitt is 5-2 in Williams’ last seven starts and 7-3 in his last 10 road starts.
Meanwhile, the Cards are 13-4 in their last 17 home games and 9-4 in their last 13 in game two of a series. STL is 43-17 in Wainwright’s last 59 home starts and 0-4 in their last four Friday games.
Williams has completed six innings for seven straight starts, and he’s coming off a pretty solid start with four earned against Oakland with five strikeouts his last time up.
As for Wainwright, he’s been consistent overall, but not a pitcher the Cards want keep out there in endurance situations.
I think here if Wainwright can give five innings of solid ball the Cardinals bullpen and lineup can do the rest. I’m going STL.
