|Date & Time||Saturday June 2, 2018, 2:15 PM (EDT)|
The Line: St. Louis Cardinals -140 / Pittsburgh Pirates +126 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals meet in game two of their four game NL Central division set in MLB action on Saturday.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to build some momentum after evening the series up at one win apiece following a 4-0 win in game two on Friday. Francisco Cervelli had an RBI and a triple, while Josh Bell, Corey Dickerson and Colin Moran each had an RBI in the win, with Dickerson going 2 for 4 with a double to round out the scoring for the Bucs in the win. Adam Frazier went 2 for 4 with a triple and a double, while Gregory Polanco added a double, Starling Marte and David Freese each had a base hit as well in the winning effort. Jameson Taillon got the win to improve to 3-4 this season after throwing eight shutout innings, giving up just three hits while striking out six. Chad Kuhl will start game three and is 4-3 with a 3.94 ERA and 58 strikeouts this season. In his career, Kuhl is 1-2 with a 4.03 ERA and 28 strikeouts against St. Louis.
The St. Louis Cardinals will look to bounce back after being shut out in game two on Friday. Marcela Ozuna went 2 for 4 at the dish, while Jose Martinez added a double and Dexter Fowler added a base hit of his own as St. Louis mustered up just four hits as a team in the losing effort. Miles Mikolas took his first loss of the season, falling to 6-1 this season after giving up two runs, one earned, on six hits over six innings of work. Luke Weaver will start game three and is 3-5 with a 4.63 ERA and 53 strikeouts this season. In his career, Weaver is 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA and 19 strikeouts against Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh is 4-1 in Kuhl’s last 5 starts and 2-5 in their last 7 division matchups while the under is 15-5-2 in their last 22 Saturday games. St. Louis is 1-4 in Weaver’s last 5 home starts and 6-2 in their last 8 games following a loss while the over is 6-2 in Weaver’s last 8 division starts. Pittsburgh is 1-5 in Kuhl’s last 6 starts against St. Louis.
I’d really like to take St. Louis as I think they’re a team to watch down the stretch. However, the Cardinals really burned me in game two on Friday, and Weaver has given up four runs or more in five of his last eight starts, including his last start against these same Pirates. Sure, St. Louis has been in much better form over the last few weeks, but Kuhl has pitched quite well for the Pirates, giving up one run in each of his last two starts, so I’ll take a shot with Pittsburgh and the plus money on Saturday.
