The Line: St. Louis Cardinals -152 / Pittsburgh Pirates +142 --- Over/Under: 8.5
At Busch Stadium on Sunday, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals will be finishing up their weekend MLB series.
The two teams split the first pair of games in this set, then on Saturday, the Cardinals eked out a 3-2 victory.
For the Sunday game, the Pirates will be sending out RHP Nick Kingham. In his 24.0 innings and 2-1 record this year, Kingham has a 3.75 ERA with 25 Ks and four BBs.
Leading the way for the Pirates in hitting coming into the weekend was Corey Dickerson with 64 hits, 26 runs and 32 RBI. On Saturday, Dickerson went 1-for-4.
As for the Cardinals, they’re going with Michael Wacha on Sunday. Across his 63.0 innings and 6-1 record, Wacha has a 2.71 ERA with 53 Ks and 25 walks.
Jose Martinez leads the St. Louis attack with 58 hits, 21 runs and 31 RBI entering the weekend. In game three, Marcel Ozuna bagged a solo homer.
The Pirates are 2-5 in the last seven during game four of a series and the under is 12-5-1 in their last 18 Sunday games. Pittsburgh is also 2-6 in their last eight versus the NL Central and 4-11 in their last 15 overall.
Meanwhile, St. Louis is 5-2 in their last seven Sunday games and 8-2 in Wacha’s last 10 starts. The Cardinals are also 11-5 in Wacha’s last 16 starts with four days’ rest and 41-20 in his last 61 home starts.
In his four games this year, Kingham has pitched reasonably well, with two quality starts mixed in with a pair of “meh” outings. Wacha has been pretty solid all year, with one earned in four of his last five starts. With Wacha on the mound, I have to go with the Cards here.
