The Line: St. Louis Cardinals / San Diego Padres --- Over/Under:
The San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals meet Tuesday in MLB action at Busch Stadium.
The San Diego Padres look for a bounce back victory after winning nine of their last 13 games. The Padres have allowed 10 runs in their last three games and four or less runs in nine of their last 12 games. The San Diego Padres have won 11 of their last 14 games when allowing four or less runs. Offensively, Jose Pirela leads the Padres with 71 hits and 19 RBI while Eric Hosmer and Freddy Galvis have combined for 125 hits and 52 RBI. The Padres didn’t list a starting pitcher at the time this article was posted.
The St. Louis Cardinals look for another win after winning five of their last eight games. The Cardinals have scored 14 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in six of their last eight games. The St. Louis Cardinals have won six of their last seven games when scoring more than three runs. Jose Martinez leads the Cardinals with 74 hits and 42 RBI while Marcell Ozuna and Tommy Pham have combined for 124 hits and 57 RBI. Miles Mikolas gets the ball, and he is 7-1 with a 2.27 ERA and 58 strikeouts this season. This will be Mikolas’ second career game against the Padres.
The Padres are 4-1 in their last 5 during game 2 of a series, 5-1 in their last 6 vs. National League Central and 9-3 in their last 12 games on grass. The Cardinals are 31-14 in their last 45 during game 2 of a series, 1-4 in their last 5 Tuesday games and 6-1 in Mikolas' last 7 starts. The Padres are 16-45 in the last 61 meetings in St. Louis, 5-12 in the last 17 meetings and the under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings.
I'm not sure it matters who is pitching for the Padres in this game, as Mikolas has been lights out for much of the season, producing wins in eight of his last 10 starts and allowing two or less runs in nine of his last 10 starts. In 42.1 innings at home this season, Mikolas has an ERA of 1.28 with an allowed batting average of .206. There's nobody on the Padres staff that's going to be able to match that, especially on the road. Give me the St. Louis Cardinals to get another nice home victory.
