The Line: St. Louis Cardinals -107 / Washington Nationals -103 --- Over/Under: 8.5
Busch Stadium will come alive once again on Tuesday as the Washington Nationals and the St. Louis Cardinals meet up in MLB activity.
In the Monday game one, the Cardinals pulled off a crazy 7-6 win by scoring five runs in the final two frames.
On Tuesday, the Nats will be sending out lefty Gio Gonzalez. In his 125.0 innings and 7-8 mark this year, Gonzalez has a 3.89 ERA with 111 Ks.
Tops in hitting for the Nats this year is Trea Turner, who entered this set on 129 hits, 73 runs, 14 homers and 49 RBI. In game one, Turner logged a hit.
As for the Cards, they’re going with John Gant on Tuesday. Across 69.1 innings and a 4-4 record this year, Gant has a 3.89 ERA with 59 Ks.
Leading the way for the Cardinals in hitting is Marcell Ozuna, who came into this series on 122 hits, 47 runs, 13 homers and 62 RBI. Ozuna had two hits and an RBI.
The Nationals are 26-12 in their last 38 Tuesday games and 7-2 in Gonzalez’s last nine Tuesday starts. Washington is also 2-8 in Gonzalez’s last 10 starts and 0-6 in his last six road starts.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 6-1 in their last seven in game two of a series and 1-5 in Gant’s last six home starts. St. Louis is also 1-4 in Gant’s last five starts versus a team with a winning record and 3-9 in his last 12 starts overall.
Gonzalez had a nice outing in his last start, giving up just one run across seven innings. Moreover, he put up a 1.29 ERA in two starts against St. Louis last year. As for Gant, the Cards have just one win in five home starts for him this season, but he’s holding opposing batters to a .198 average at Busch. This should be a great pitching matchup, and I think the Cardinals can squeak one out and finally get Gant another home win.
