The Washington Nationals and the St. Louis Cardinals will finish off their MLB series on Wednesday.

In the opener of this set Monday, the Cardinals banged out a 4-2 win. On Tuesday, the Nationals peppered in runs across five different innings en route to a 6-2 win.

For the Wednesday game, the Nationals will send out Max Scherzer in the start. Across 159.2 innings and a 10-6 record this year, Scherzer has a 2.65 ERA with 222 Ks and 32 BBs.

Over on the Cardinals’ side, they’re going with Adam Wainwright in the Wednesday start. Over his 155.1 innings and 12-9 mark this year, Wainwright has a 4.00 ERA with 141 Ks and 61 BBs.

The Nationals are 20-7 in their last 27 in game three of a series and 19-7 in their last 26 Wednesday games. Washington is 11-2 in Scherzer’s last 13 starts and 39-16 in his last 55 road starts.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 0-4 in their last four Wednesday games and 4-0 in Wainwright’s last four starts. St. Louis is 49-21 in Wainwright’s last 70 home starts and 53-25 in his last 78 in game three of a series.

Scherzer has pitched fairly well over his last two games. In that span he’s got a quality start on the road (6.0 innings; one earned) and a loss at home (5.0 innings; three earned), both against the Braves.

As for Wainwright, he’s riding three straight quality starts right now. I like him to keep it going here so I’m taking Cards in the finale.

Pick:
St. Louis Cardinals +133
