Tampa Bay, Florida
Tampa Bay Rays -170 / Arizona Diamondbacks +148
The Arizona Diamondbacks will visit the Tampa Bay Rays in game two of their MLB series on Tuesday.
In the Monday opener, the Rays scrambled to seven runs in the first three innings on the way to a 12-1 win.
For Tuesday’s game, the Diamondbacks will be sending out Taylor Clarke in the start. Across 3.0 innings in his big league debut, Clarke logged one save and two strikeouts with an OBP of .182 allowed.
The Diamondbacks could only muster two hits in their big blowout loss Monday. Blake Swihart was the only player to register a run, and Ildemaro Vargas had a hit as well.
Over on the Rays’ side, they will be going with Ryne Stanek in the start Tuesday. Through an 0-1 record and a 2.81 ERA, Stanek has 14 strikeouts this year.
Tampa went pretty crazy on offense in the Monday game, with Avisail Garcia leading the way on three hits, three RBI and three runs. Tommy Pham also had a nice night on a grand slam with two hits.
The Diamondbacks are 5-1 in their last six in game two of a series and 40-14 in their last 54 Tuesday games. The under is 7-1-1 in Arizona’s last nine in game two of a series and 15-6-3 in their last 24 Tuesday games.
Meanwhile, the Rays are 4-0 in their last four Tuesday games and 16-7 in their last 23 in game two of a series. The under is 4-0 in Tampa’s last four in game two of a series and 19-7 in their last 26 Tuesday games.
Clarke looked sharp in his three innings of relief against the Cubs back on April 20, so it will be interesting to see what he can do in a starting capacity as he takes the place of Zack Godley in the rotation.
This should be a hefty bullpen game for both teams, Arizona because they won’t leave a young arm out there for long unless he’s absolutely dealing, and Tampa because that’s just what they do—and it usually works.
In any case, with all things considered I think Tampa is the right choice here.
