The Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays will match up in MLB activity on Friday as they kick off their series.

The Red Sox will be sending out Eduardo Rodriguez on Friday for the start. In his 14.2 innings and 1-2 record this season, Rodriguez has a 7.98 ERA with 15 Ks and six walks.

Leading the way for the Sox this year on offense is JD Martinez, with 26 hits, 10 runs, four homers and 10 RBI. Xander Bogaerts is in second place for Boston with 19 hits, 11 runs, two homers and eight RBI.

Over on the Rays’ side, they are going with Ryne Stanek in the start on Saturday. Over his 9.1 innings this year, Stanek has a nice 1.93 ERA with 13 Ks and two walks.

On Thursday, Tampa fell to the Orioles 6-5 in 11 innings. In that one, Joey Rickard managed a 4-for-5 game there, with two RBI, a run and a triple.

The Red Sox are 45-22 in their last 67 after an off day and 1-4 in their last five versus the AL East. Boston is also 1-5 in their last six road games and 5-2 in Rodriguez’s las seven Friday starts.

Meanwhile, the Rays are 5-0 in their last five in game one of a series and the over is 3-1-1 in their last five Friday games. Tampa is 4-1 in their last five Friday games and 21-8 in their last 29 games versus a lefty starter.

Rodriguez had two starts coming out of the gate that were really ugly—I’m talking 11 earned on 16 hits over 8.0 innings total, and two obvious losses in Oakland and Seattle. In his last start, Rodriguez logged much better numbers, with 6.2 innings, two earned and three hits.

The Sox will eventually come out of this World Series hangover, but I don’t trust Rodriguez against a plucky Rays lineup. I’ll stick with Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay Rays TBA
