MLB | Boston Red Sox (8-5) at Tampa Bay Rays (6-7)

Tropicana Field and the Tampa Bay Rays begin a weekday series with the rival Boston Red Sox Tuesday.

The Boston Red Sox are trying to bounce back from a dismal 2014 and with their offseason moves many expect this team to challenge for the American League East crown. It’s too early to say if the division title is in their future but they did show some punch at the plate and on the mound in Monday’s 7-1 rout of visiting Baltimore. Starter Justin Masterson was solid over five frames with the lone run plated on three hits and a trio of bases on balls while striking out six. The lineup posted five hits and walked six times with Dustin Pedroia going 2-3 with an RBI and run while Ryan Hanigan scored twice. Wade Miley draws the series opening start at Tropicana Field on Tuesday night. Miley really struggled in his last start versus Washington where he was charged with seven runs on five hits and three BB in 2.1 frames.

The Tampa Bay Rays were a better road team then at Tropicana Field a season ago and they have dropped three in a row at home so that tend has continued. The pitching and hitting were not on the same page in a three game sweep at the hands of the visiting Yankees following a 5-3 loss on Sunday. Starter Matt Andriese took the loss with four runs allowed on eight hits and a pair of bases on balls through 3.1 innings. The bats totaled nine hits and a pair of free passes with Steven Souza going 3-5 with a homer and three runs driven in. Tampa Bay is scheduled to send Chris Archer to the bump hoping he can continue his hot run. Archer has tossed back to back shutouts on just three hits and three walks with 16 strikeouts in 14 innings.

The over is 18-7-1 in Boson’s last 26 overall and 4-10 I their last 14 Tuesday games while the Red Sox are 3-7 in their last 10 meetings in Tampa Bay.  Let start off by saying I’m not at all thrilled with either team so I’ll side with the better odds…

Boston +116

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
