Boston Red Sox -156 / Tampa Bay Rays +135 -- O/U: 7.5
The Tampa Bay Rays and the Boston Red Sox meet in the finale of their AL East division set from Fenway Park in MLB action on Sunday afternoon.
The Tampa Bay Rays will look to take the series after winning Saturday’s game by a final score of 2-1. Yandy Diaz had a solo home run while Mike Zunino added an RBI to round out Tampa Bay’s scoring in the win. Tommy Pham had a double and Kevin Kiermaier added a base knock as well as the Rays had just four hits as a team in the win. Charlie Morton got the win after throwing six shutout innings, allowing just two hits while walking four and striking out five to improve to 3-0. Emilio Pagan got his 3rd save of the season by closing out the 9th. Tyler Glasnow will start the finale and is 4-0 with a 1.53 ERA and 29 strikeouts this season. In his career, Glasnow is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA and 9 strikeouts against Boston.
The Boston Red Sox will look to salvage a split of the abbreviated series after dropping Saturday’s affair. Mookie Betts went 2 for 5 with a solo home run to account for the lone Boston RBI in the loss, while Xander Bogaerts had a double and Rafael Devers and Christian Vazquez each had a base hit as Boston cranked out just five hits as a team in the defeat. David Price took the loss, falling to 1-2 after allowing two runs on four hits while striking out seven over six innings of work. Chris Sale will start the finale and is 0-4 with a 7.43 ERA and 24 strikeouts this season. In his career, Sale is 9-5 with a 2.96 ERA and 161 strikeouts against Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay is 4-1 in Glasnow’s last 5 starts and 16-5 in their last 21 road games while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 games overall. Boston is 0-5 in Sale’s last 5 starts and 25-9 in their last 34 Sunday games while the over is 6-0-2 in Sale’s last 8 home starts. Boston is 4-1 in Sale’s last 5 starts against Tampa Bay.
You have to imagine that Sale is bound to turn things around eventually, but until that happens, I want no part of him, and it baffles me that Boston is such a favorite here. Glasnow has been Tampa Bay’s best arm so far this season, and despite getting a no-decision in his last start, Sale is still winless with an ERA well over seven. I just don’t feel that Boston is worth this price and Tampa Bay is being shown no respect with this line, so I’ll take Tampa Bay and the plus money on Sunday.
