Tampa Bay, Florida
Tampa Bay Rays -240 / Chicago White Sox +220 O/U: 9
The Chicago White Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays will meet up on the MLB diamond to begin their weekend series on Friday.
The Sox are coming out of a set against the Royals. Chicago dropped the first three games there, falling 5-2, 11-0 and 7-5. In the finale Thursday, the Sox fell again 6-5.
For Friday’s game, the Sox will send out Reynaldo Lopez for the start. Over 104.0 innings and a 4-8 mark so far, Lopez has a 5.97 ERA with 93 Ks and 40 BBs.
Over on the Rays’ side, they played the Yankees this week. After splitting the first pair of games in that one (and a rainout), in the Thursday doubleheader Tampa fell 6-2 in game one and then in the nightcap the Rays fell again 6-1.
The Rays will be sending out Brendan McKay on Friday. McKay is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA and 13 strikeouts this year.
The White Sox are 1-4 in their last five versus the AL East and 4-1 in Lopez’s last five starts with four days’ rest. Chicago is 3-7 in Lopez’s last 10 road starts and 1-4 in his last five versus the AL east.
Meanwhile, the Rays are 6-2 in the last eight at home after a road trip of seven or more days and 13-6 in their last 19 home games versus a team with a road winning percentage of less than .400. The over is 2-0-2 in Tampa’s last four in game one of a series and the under is 11-5-1 in their last 17 home games after a road trip of a week or more.
Lopez has been solid overall lately, and does have two quality starts in his last three outings. The outlier there was six earned in 5.1 innings during a loss to Detroit. Otherwise Lopez has given up three in a span of 12.0 innings during that time.
The thing here is, Lopez has been really spotty and has just a 1-4 record over his last 10 starts. It’s too dicey trying to predict what he’ll do here so I’m going Rays.
