Chicago White Sox (38-70) at Tampa Bay Rays (56-53)
|Date & Time||Saturday August 4, 2018, 6:10 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Tampa Bay Rays -170 / Chicago White Sox +160 --- Over/Under: 7.5
Down at Tropicana Field on Saturday, the Chicago White Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays will be continuing their weekend MLB series.
In the Friday opener, the Sox eked out a tight 3-2 win that took 10 innings to finish.
For Saturday’s game, the Sox will be sending out lefty Carlos Rodon. In his 58.1 innings and 3-3 mark this year, Rodon has a 3.24 ERA with 49 Ks and 21 BBs.
Heading into this set, Sox hits-leader Jose Abreu brought 108 hits, 57 runs, 17 homers and 60 RBI. On Friday, Abreu hit a two-run homer.
Over on the Rays’ side, they’re going with Blake Snell on Saturday. Across his 119.0 innings and 12-5 record this year, Snell has a 2.27 ERA with 134 Ks and 47 BBs.
Matt Duffy leads the Rays in hitting this season, and he entered this series on 108 hits, 37 runs and 31 RBI. In game one, Duffy came up empty.
The White Sox are 18-39 in their last 57 in game two of a series and 2-7 in their last nine Saturday games. Chicago is 5-16 in Rodon’s last 21 road starts and 1-4 in his last five starts versus the AL East.
Meanwhile, the Rays are 11-5 in their last 16 Saturday games and 4-0 in Snell’s last four home starts. Tampa is also 4-1 in Snell’s last five starts and 6-0 in his last six starts in game two of a series.
Since the beginning of July, Rodon has been quite good over four outings, snagging all quality starts with a combined six earned across 28.2 innings. As for Snell, he had a string of four quality starts himself, but that was broken with three earned in 3.0 innings in Minnesota. I think Snell can bounce back here and help the Rays get a win, but the under sounds the most intriguing.
