|Date & Time||Monday July 9, 2018, 7:10 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Tampa Bay Rays -165 / Detroit Tigers +155 --- Over/Under: 7.5
Monday evening out at Tropicana Field, the Detroit Tigers and the Tampa Bay Rays will be meeting up to start their MLB series.
The Tigers are coming off a weekend set versus the Rangers. After taking two of the first three games, on Sunday Detroit lost 3-0.
For the Monday game, the Tigers will be rolling out LHP Francisco Liriano. In his 73.2 innings and 3-5 record this year, Liriano has a 4.03 ERA with 57 Ks and 41 BBs.
Nick Castellanos leads the Tigers with 107 hits, 15 homers, 55 RBI and 49 runs coming into the week. On Sunday, Castellanos sat with wrist soreness and the Tigers offense mustered just four hits as a team.
Over on the Rays’ side, they’re fresh off a set versus the Mets. Tampa split the first two games of that series, and in the Sunday finale the Rays crushed 9-0.
Tampa Bay will be going with Chris Archer on Monday. Over 76.1 innings and a 3-4 mark this year, Archer has a 4.24 ERA with 76 Ks and 26 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Rays this year is Matt Duffy, who entered the week with 88 hits, 27 runs and 25 RBI. On Sunday, Duffy plated a run.
The Tigers are 6-13 in their last 19 Monday games and 16-35 in their last 51 in game one of a series. Detroit is also 0-6 in Liriano’s last six road starts and 0-5 in his last five starts.
Meanwhile, the Rays are 7-2 in their last nine Monday games and 3-8 in their last 11 in game one of a series. Tampa is 2-5 in Archer’s last seven starts and 4-1 in his last five home starts versus a team with a losing record.
Liriano’s last two starts have been quality ones (even though he’s 0-2 in those games and has lost his last four appearances) and he’s given up six earned in 12.0 innings in that span. As for Archer, he’s been quite smooth with just three combined earned over his last four starts. I’m going to stick with Archer and the Rays to keep it going here.
