|Date & Time||Friday June 29, 2018, 7:10 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Tampa Bay Rays +185 / Houston Astros -200 --- Over/Under: 7.5
On Friday evening from Tropicana Field, the Houston Astros and the Tampa Bay Rays will be continuing their MLB series.
In the Thursday opener of this set, the Astros eked out a tense 1-0 victory, out-hitting Tampa 8-6 on the night.
For Friday’s game, the Astros will be sending out RHP Gerrit Cole. In his 105.2 innings and 9-1 record this year, Cole has a 2.56 ERA with 146 Ks.
Leading the way in hitting for the Astros this year is Jose Altuve, bringing 111 hits, 55 runs and 41 RBI into the opener. On Thursday, Altuve was 1-for-3.
As for the Rays, they’re sending out RHP Wilmer Font on Friday. Across 39.0 innings and a 1-3 mark this year, Font has a 6.46 ERA with 33 Ks.
Tampa Bay’s top hitter this season is Matt Duffy, who came into this set with 79 hits, 22 runs and 23 RBI on the year. In the opener, Duffy posted one hit.
The Astros are 39-18 in their last 57 Friday games and 47-22 in their last 69 in game two of a series. The over is 4-1 in Houston’s last five Friday games and 7-3 in their last 10 in game two of a series.
Meanwhile, the Rays are 4-1 in their last five in game two of a series and 1-4 in their last five Friday games. The under is 5-0 in Tampa’s last five Friday games and 13-3-1 in their last 17 in game two of a series.
Cole had a season-low (tie) in completed innings in his last start, with five frames against the Royals. Thanks to a high pitch count, Cole was yanked relatively early. As for Font, he put up 5.2 innings versus the Yankees Saturday for his first career win. Font has been pitching pretty well since joining the Rays, but I think he’s overmatched here. I’ll go Astros.
