Los Angeles Angels (54-54) at Tampa Bay Rays (54-53)
|Date & Time||Thursday August 2, 2018, 1:10 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Tampa Bay Rays +120 / Los Angeles Angels -130 --- Over/Under: 8
Down at Tropicana Field on Thursday, the Los Angeles Angels and the Tampa Bay Rays will be finishing up their MLB series.
The Rays put up a 10-6 win in the opener, then on Wednesday Tampa kept it going with a 7-2 win.
For the Thursday game, the Angels will be bringing out lefty Andrew Heaney. In his 116.1 innings and 6-6 mark this year, Heaney has a 3.64 ERA with 111 Ks and 32 BBs.
Leading the Angels in hitting this season is Mike Trout, who entered game two on 115 hits, 82 runs, 30 homers and 60 RBI. On Wednesday, Trout went 0-for-3.
Over on the Rays’ side, for Thursday’s matchup they will go with Hunter Wood (RHP). This will be Wood’s fourth career start.
Tops in hitting for the Rays this season is Matt Duffy, who came into Wednesday on 105 hits, 35 runs and 30 RBI. In game two, Duffy logged two hits, a run and an RBI.
The Angels are 4-9 in their last 13 in game three of a series and 4-0 in Heaney’s last four starts. LA is 1-7 in Heaney’s last eight road starts and 1-5 in his last six starts with five days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Rays are 5-1 in their last six in game three of a series and 1-5 in their last six Thursday games. The under is 4-0 in the Rays’ last four Thursday games and they’re 5-1 in their last six games versus a starter with a WHIP of less than 1.15.
Heaney has been pretty solid over the past month or so. Since giving up six earned in 3.1 innings against the Red Sox at Fenway on June 27, Heaney has five straight quality starts, allowing a total of 11 earned runs between them and getting through seven innings three times in that span. I like Heaney to come out strong here and help guide the Angels to a victory.
