The Line: Tampa Bay Rays -185 / Miami Marlins +174 --- Over/Under: 7.5
Down at Tropicana Field on Sunday, the Miami Marlins and the Tampa Bay Rays will be meeting up to finish their weekend MLB intrastate set.
The Marlins squeezed by 6-5 in Friday’s game one, then on Saturday Miami did it again 3-2.
For the Sunday matchup the Marlins will be bringing out RHP Trevor Richards. In his 62.2 innings and 3-5 record this year, Richards has a 4.74 ERA with 57 Ks and 31 BBs.
Leading the Marlins on offense coming into game two was Starlin Castro with 114 hits, 58 runs and 37 RBI. On Saturday, Castro logged one hit and a run.
Over on the Rays’ side, they’re rolling with Chris Archer on Sunday. Across 84.0 innings and a 3-4 record this year, Archer has a 4.29 ERA with 86 Ks and 29 BBs.
Tampa’s lead hitter this year is Matt Duffy, who came into the weekend on 99 hits, 33 runs and 27 RBI. On Saturday, Duffy was out but Joey Wendle put up a solo homer.
The Marlins are 6-14 in the last 20 in game three of a series and 3-7 in their last 10 Sunday games. The over is 4-1 in Miami’s last five Sunday games and 7-3 in their last 10 in game three of a series.
Meanwhile, the Rays are 5-1 in their last six in game three of a series and 4-1 in their last five Sunday games. Tampa is also 5-1 in Archer’s last six home starts versus a team with a losing record and 5-2 in his last seven starts versus a team with a losing record.
After a few shaky starts where he gave up nine earned in 12.2 innings, Richards posted a quality outing against Philly in his last appearance heading into the break. As for Archer, he has been pretty good over his last six starts, giving up more than two earned just once. I’m going to go with Archer to keep it going here and take the Rays.
