The Line: Tampa Bay Rays +117 / New York Yankees -127 --- Over/Under: 8
Down at Tropicana Field on Sunday, the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays will be finishing up their weekend MLB series.
In the Friday opener, the Rays eked out a 2-1 win. On Saturday, Tampa kept it going with a 4-0 blanking of New York.
For Sunday’s game, the Yankees will be sending out RHP Domingo German. In his 60.1 innings and 2-4 record this year, German has a 4.77 ERA with 72 Ks and 21 walks.
Tops on offense for the Yankees is Aaron Judge, with 75 hits, 50 runs, 19 homers and 51 RBI coming into the weekend. In game two, Judge went 0-for-3.
Over on the Rays’ side, they’re going with Blake Snell on Sunday. Over 94.1 innings and a 9-4 record this season, Snell has a 2.48 ERA with 103 Ks and 36 BBs.
Leading the Rays offense this year is Matt Duffy, who came into the weekend with 75 hits, 21 runs and 22 RBI. On Saturday, Duffy had one hit.
The Yankees are 4-1 in their last five in game three of a series and 6-2 in their last eight Sunday games. New York is 4-0 in German’s last four starts with four days’ rest and the under is 4-1 in their last five Sunday games.
Meanwhile, the Rays are 5-2 in Snell’s last seven starts and 8-3 in his last 11 in game three of a series. Tampa is also 3-9 in their last 12 Sunday games and 4-1 in Snell’s last five home starts.
German has had some ups and downs this year, but in his last three starts he’s 2-0 with seven earned over 19.0 innings. As for Snell, he’s given up one earned or fewer in five of his last six starts. I’m not in love with the pick—and a sweep is improbable—but this might be a good value spot to take the Rays.
