Tampa Bay Rays -180 / Texas Rangers +170 O/U: 8.5
The Texas Rangers and the Tampa Bay Rays will meet up on the MLB diamond Saturday to continue their series.
In the Friday opener of this set, Texas jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings and never looked back in a 5-0 shutout win.
For Saturday’s game, the Rangers are bringing out Adrian Sampson in the start. Over his 82.2 innings and 6-4 record this year, Sampson has a 4.14 ERA with 66 Ks and 18 BBs.
Texas put up eight hits on the night Friday. Rougned Odor shredded with three hits, a double, a triple, one RBI and one run to lead the way.
Over on the Tampa Bay side, they’re bringing up Brendan McKay for the start. The 23-year-old McKay will be making his Major League debut and is the No. 23 prospect in the MLB.
Tampa could only muster three hits on the evening Friday. The only extra-base hit came from Willy Adames, who went 1-for-3 with a double.
The Rangers are 5-0 in their last five Saturday games and 8-1 in their last nine in game two of a series. Texas is 0-6 in Sampson’s last six road starts. Texas is 0-4 in Sampson’s last four starts versus a team with a winning record and the under is 5-2 in their lasts seven Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Rays are 26-12 in their last 38 in game two of a series and 1-4 in their last five Saturday games. The under is 4-1-2 in Tampa’s last seven Saturday games as well.
Sampson’s numbers have been pretty solid this season, but it’s been a mixed bag over his last five outings. In that span, he has three quality starts, one complete game and three earned in 25.0 innings during that trio.
The bad news is that Sampson has also put up nine earned in 8.0 innings over the other two during his last five starts. Still, I trust him enough to get the Rangers close. That said, with the lift McKay will bring I have to go Rays here.
