The Washington Nationals and Tampa Bay Rays meet Monday in MLB action at Tropicana Field.
The Washington Nationals look for another victory after losing six of their last nine games. The Nationals have scored 13 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in four of their last eight games. The Washington Nationals have won four of their last six games when scoring more than three runs. Trea Turner leads the Nationals with 81 hits and 27 RBI while Anthony Rendon and Michael Taylor have combined for 122 hits and 54 RBI. Gio Gonzalez gets the ball, and he is 6-4 with a 3.08 ERA and 80 strikeouts this season. Gonzalez is 2-2 with a 5.54 ERA and 25 strikeouts in his career against the Rays.
The Tampa Bay Rays look for another victory after winning five of their last seven games. The Rays have scored 13 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in three of their last six games. The Tampa Bay Rays have won four straight games when scoring more than one run. Matt Duffy leads the Rays with 77 hits and 23 RBI while Wilson Ramos and C.J. Cron have combined for 133 hits and 74 RBI. Blake Snell gets the ball, and he is 9-4 with a 2.48 ERA and 103 strikeouts this season. This will be Snell’s first career game against the Nationals.
The Nationals are 14-3 in their last 17 Monday games, 1-5 in their last 6 road games and 5-2 in Gonzalezs last 7 starts. The Rays are 5-0 in their last 5 home games, 4-1 in Snells last 5 home starts and 5-2 in Snells last 7 starts. The Nationals are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings in Tampa Bay.
The Washington Nationals have a quick turnaround after playing late Sunday night, and Snell does have better numbers on the season over Gonzalez. However, we're getting slight plus money with the better team in this spot. The Nats are coming off a come from behind victory over the Phillies, a win that could spark some consistency to close out this month. The Rays are also too hit or miss offensively for me to back against some of the better teams in the league. Give me Washington on the road.
