|Date & Time||Tuesday June 26, 2018, 12:10 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Tampa Bay Rays +209 / Washington Nationals -227 --- Over/Under: 7
Down at Tropicana Field on Tuesday, the Washington Nationals and the Tampa Bay Rays will be finishing up their two-game MLB set.
In the Monday opener, the Rays pummeled the Nats 11-0, out-hitting Washington 12-2.
For Tuesday’s game, the Nationals will be bringing out RHP Max Scherzer. In his 107.2 innings and 10-3 record this year, Scherzer has a 2.09 ERA with 161 Ks and 24 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Nationals this year is Trea Turner, with 81 hits, 41 runs and 27 RBI coming into this set. In the Monday game, Turner was 0-for-3.
Over on the Rays’ side, they’re rolling with Nathan Eovaldi on Tuesday. Across his 29.1 innings and 1-3 mark this year, Eovaldi has a 4.91 ERA with 21 Ks and three walks.
Matt Duffy leads the Rays’ offense with 77 hits, 22 runs and 23 RBI entering this series. In the opener, Duffy had one hit.
The Nationals are 23-8 in their last 31 Tuesday games and 5-1 in Scherzer’s last six Tuesday starts. Washington is 41-18 in Scherzer’s last 59 road starts and 46-18 in his last 64 starts.
Meanwhile, the Rays are 0-4 in Eovaldi’s last four starts and 0-4 in his last four starts versus a team with a winning record. The under is 5-0 in Tampa’s last five Tuesday games and 12-3-1 in their last 16 in game two of a series.
Scherzer has been great lately, just like he has all year. He’s got five straight quality starts and has gone at least 7.0 innings in four of them. As for Eovaldi, he’s coughed up 16 earned runs across his last four starts, but to his credit he goes pretty deep into games and doesn’t walk a lot of guys. With Scherzer on the mound, I have to go Nats here.
