The Line: Texas Rangers +104 / Detroit Tigers -114 --- Over/Under: 9.5
The Detroit Tigers and the Texas Rangers square off in game one of a three game set from Arlington, Texas on Monday night in MLB action.
The Detroit Tigers will be eager to bounce back after dropping their series with Kansas City, losing three of the four game set with a 4-2 loss in the series finale on Sunday. John Hicks accounted for both Detroit runs in the loss, going 3 for 4 with a homer, while Leonys Martin went 2 for 5 with a double. Jose Iglesias, Victor Martinez, Dixon Machado, Grayson Greiner and Victor Reyes each chipped in base hits as well to cap off the offense for the Tigers in the losing effort. Matt Boyd took the loss, falling to 1-3 after giving up all four runs on six hits while striking out five over seven innings of work. Michael Fulmer will start the opener and is 1-2 with a 2.80 ERA and 27 strikeouts this season. In his career, Fulmer is 1-1 with a 3.21 ERA and 11 strikeouts against Texas.
The Texas Rangers need a win after losing six of their last eight games, including the final three games in their four game set against Boston, falling 6-1 in the series finale on Sunday. Ryan Rua’s solo homer was the lone run on the board for the Rangers in the loss, while Renato Nunez went 2 for 4, Delino DeShields and Jurickson Profar each added base hits of their own in the losing effort. Doug Fisher took the loss, falling to 1-3 this season after allowing all six runs on nine hits while striking out five over 6.1 innings of work. Matt Moore will start game one and is 1-4 with a 7.67 ERA and 18 strikeouts this season. In his career, Moore is 0-1 with an 8.31 ERA and 5 strikeouts against Detroit.
Detroit is 4-9 in Fulmer’s last 13 starts and 12-30 in their last 42 road games while the under is 7-1 in their last 8 games overall. Texas is 1-5 in Moore’s last 6 starts and 2-6 in their last 8 games overall while the over is 7-2-1 in their last 10 games overall. Detroit is 0-4 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams and 2-6 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams in Texas.
Moore hadn’t been throwing too badly before his last start, yeah that start where he gave up ten runs in four innings. No thanks, I was never really a believer in Moore to begin with, but just when I thought he was turning the corner, he gets lit up like a Christmas tree. Detroit didn’t look good against the Royals, but Fulmer has been one of the best arms the Tigers have had dating back to last season, so while Texas hung around for most of their series with Boston, I’ll take the Tigers as more of a fade from Moore here.
