MLB | Houston Astros (2-1) at Texas Rangers (1-2)

We have some AL West division action on tap Sunday afternoon as the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers finish their opening weekend four game set.

The Houston Astros will look for a season opening series win after winning game three by a final score of 9-3 on Saturday. Carlos Correa and Jake Marisnick each hit a homer and added a pair of RBIs with a homer, with Correa going 4 for 5 with a double as well. Marwin Gonzalez added a pair of RBIs with a double while George Springer added a double and an RBI. Jose Altuve added an RBI while going 4 for 5 while Brian McCann put a run on the board as well to round out the scoring for the ‘Stros in the win. Evan Gattis added a double of his own in the winning effort for Houston. Lance McCullers Jr. ended with the win to improve 1-0 after giving up two runs on four hits while striking out ten over 5.1 innings of work. Gerrit Cole will make his Astros debut in this one and was 12-12 with a 4.26 ERA and 196 strikeouts for the Pirates last season. In his career, Cole is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 9 strikeouts against Texas.

The Texas Rangers will look to bounce back and salvage a series split after dropping game three on Saturday. Elvis Andrew led the team by going 2 for 3 with a solo homer, while Nomar Mazara added a pair of base hits and an RBI of his own. Adrian Beltre added a double with an RBI to round out the offensive output for the Rangers in the loss. Matt Moore gave up four runs on seven hits while striking out six over four innings of work to take the loss, falling to 0-1 this season. Mike Minor will get the start for Texas in game four and was 6-6 with a 2.55 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 65 appearances for the Royals last season. In his career, Minor is 1-1 with a 4.57 ERA and 17 strikeouts against Houston.

Houston is 10-2 in their last 12 division matchups and 26-11 in their last 37 games overall while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 road games. Texas is 3-9 in their last 12 games overall and 3-9 in their last 12 division matchups while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 home games. Houston is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.

Texas got a win and that’s more than I thought they’d get coming into the series in all honesty. The problem is that the Rangers are sending out Minor, who hasn’t started a game since 2014. Sure he’s made appearances for the Royals last season, but starting a game is a complete different animal than coming in mid-game. Cole has to be amped to pitch for his new team, and finally get some run support which he didn’t really have in Pittsburgh. Plus the line isn’t too crazy, so I’ll lay the juice with the Astros here.
