The Line: Texas Rangers +191 / Houston Astros -206 --- Over/Under: 9
Down at Globe Life Park on Friday, the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers will be continuing their weekend MLB set.
In the Thursday opener, the Astros scored three times in the fourth inning on the way to an exciting 5-2 victory.
For Friday’s matchup, the Astros will be going with RHP Justin Verlander. In his 87.1 innings and 7-2 record this year, Verlander has a 1.24 ERA with 104 Ks and 17 BBs.
Jose Altuve is the leading Astros hitter this year with 85 hits, 35 runs and 30 RBI. In the Thursday opener, Altuve had three hits, two runs and an RBI.
Over on the Rangers’ side, they’re rolling out Doug Fister on Friday. Over his 61.0 innings and 1-6 mark this season, Fister has a 4.13 ERA with 38 Ks and 17 BBs.
Texas’ leading hitter entering this set was Nomar Mazara with 64 hits, 36 runs, 14 homers and 39 RBI. On Thursday, Mazara went 0-for-3.
The Astros are 4-1 in their last five during game two of a series and 37-17 in their last 54 Friday games. Houston is also 5-1 in Verlander’s last six road starts and 17-6 in his last 23 starts.
Meanwhile, the Rangers are 7-0 in their last seven in game two of a series and 1-5 in Fister’s last six starts versus the AL West. Texas is also 1-5 in Fister’s last six starts and 0-5 in his last five starts with four days’ rest.
There’s no doubt that Verlander has been pretty much lights-out this season, and he’s sitting on a lengthy run of consecutive quality starts. Fister hasn’t been bad lately, with four quality starts in his last five outings. There’s no way I’m picking against Verlander and the Astros here, though.
