Texas Rangers +114 / Houston Astros -123
The Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers meet in game three of a four game AL West division lone star state rivalry series in MLB action from Globe Life Park on Saturday.
The Houston Astros will look to bounce back after two straight losses to start the series following a 9-8 loss in game two on Friday. Yordan Alvarez, Yuli Gurriel and Tyler White each had two RBis with Alvarez hitting a pair of home runs while going 3 for 3 at the dish and Gurriel added a home run of his own. Jose Altuve belted a solo home run as well while George Springer and Josh Reddick each had base hits to cap off the Astros’ offense as a team in the defeat. Gerrit Cole gave up four runs on five hits while striking out 13 over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Roberto Osuna took the loss, falling to 3-2 on the year in relief. Wade Miley will start game three and is 7-4 with a 3.28 ERA and 86 strikeouts this season. In his career, Miley is 3-5 with a 5.56 ERA and 57 strikeouts against Texas.
The Texas Rangers will look to win the series and push for a sweep on Sunday after rallying for the victory in game two on Friday. Danny Santana and Ronald Guzman each had a home run and two RBIs with Santana going 3 for 4 at the dish. Tim Fedorowicz, Joey Gallo and Shin-Soo Choo each had a solo home run while Elvis Andrus added an RBi to finish off the Rangers’ offense as a team in the winning effort. Jesse Chavez gave up seven runs, six earned, on seven hits over 5.1 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Shawn Kelley got the win in relief to improve his record to 5-2 on the year. Mike Minor will start game three and is 8-4 with a 2.54 ERA and 114 strikeouts this season. In his career, Minor is 3-3 with a 4.26 ERA and 52 strikeouts against Houston.
Houston is 10-4 in Miley’s last 14 starts and 3-8 in their last 11 road games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 road games against a left-handed starter. Texas is 5-1 in Minor’s last 6 starts and 5-2 in their last 7 home games while the under is 25-10-1 in Minor’s last 36 starts. Houston is 0-4 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams at Globe Life Park.
I understand Houston being favored on the road, with the Astros due to break out on offense and with Miley giving up one run in back-to-back starts. However, Minor is no slouch, with a 2.34 ERA at home this season and he’s held the Astros to just three runs in 12 innings in two starts against Houston this season. There’s also the fact that Texas has all of the momentum after rallying for the walkoff win in game two and have been the better team in the first two games of the series. Miley has had issues in his career keeping runs off of the board against Texas, so I’ll take a shot with the Rangers and the plus money given how the first two games of the series have gone.
