Los Angeles Angels -132 / Texas Rangers +110 -- O/U: 10.5
The Los Angeles Angels and the Texas Rangers meet in game one of a three game AL West division set from Glove Life Park on Monday night.
The Los Angeles Angels come into this game rested after having their finale of their three game set with the Cubs postponed due to rain. The Angels had to settle for a series split after a 6-5 win in game two on Saturday. Kole Calhoun, David Fletcher, Zack Cozart, Albert Pujols and Peter Bourjos each had an RBI in the winning effort with Cozart going 3 for 4 at the dish in the win. Justin Bour and Brian Goodwin each had two hits with Bour recording a double while Jonathan Lucroy chipped in a base hit as well in the winning effort. Chris Stratton went 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on five hits while walking four and striking out five, not factoring in the decision. Ty Buttrey got the win to improve to 1-0 while Cody Allen picked up his 4th save of the year. Trevor Cahill will start game one and is 1-1 with a 3.50 ERA and 16 strikeouts this season. In his career, Cahill is 11-4 with a 3.22 ERA and 77 strikeouts against Texas.
The Texas Rangers will be looking to build some momentum after salvaging a split in a shortened series with the Oakland A’s, winning the finale on Sunday by a final score of 8-7. Elvis Andrus led the Rangers by going 3 for 4 with a home run, a triple and two RBIs while Danny Santana added a pinch-hit two run triple. Delino DeShields went 2 for 5 with a double and an RBI while Asdrubal Cabrera and Hunter Pence each had RBIs as well and Nomar Mazara contributed a base hit in the winning effort. Adrian Sampson allowed all seven runs on eight hits while striking out four over four innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Jeffrey Springs got the win to improve to 2-0 while Jose Leclerc picked up his 3rd save of the campaign. Shelby Miller will start game one and is 0-1 with a 9.53 ERA and 3 strikeouts this season. In his career, Miller is 1-1 with a 6.75 ERA and 7 strikeouts against the Angels.
Los Angeles is 7-1 in their last 8 games overall and 6-0 in their last 6 games against a right-handed starter while the under is 12-3-2 in their last 17 division games. Texas is 2-5 in their last 7 games overall and 1-4 in their last 5 series opening matchups while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 home games against a team with a winning record. Los Angeles is 8-1 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.
Texas has found themselves in some competitive games over their last couple of outings, but the Rangers aren’t the same team that started the season hot as Texas has fallen to the bottom of the division. Los Angeles is on fire right now and not only that, but the Halos find themselves as the more rested of the two teams in this game and Cahill has had success against the Rangers in his career. Miller has allowed six runs in 5.2 innings of work so far this season and going back the last couple of seasons, Miller hasn’t been the most dependable arm to rely on. I just think that with the recent roll that Los Angeles is on, the Angels find a way to take game one on Monday.
