The Line: Texas Rangers / Los Angeles Angels --- Over/Under:
The Los Angeles Angels and the Texas Rangers meet in the rubber match of their three game AL West division set from Globe Life Park in Arlington on Wednesday.
The Los Angeles Angels will look to bounce back after dropping game two on Tuesday by a final score of 4-2. Shohei Ohtani belted a solo homer while Andrelton Simmons added an RBI of his own to round out L.A.’s scoring in the loss. David Fletcher went 3 for 4 with a double while Michael Hermosillo added a base hit of his own as the Halos cranked out just six hits as a team in the losing effort. Andrew Heaney took the loss, falling to 8-9 this season after giving up all four runs on seven hits while striking out five over six innings of work. Jaime Barria will start game three and is 9-8 with a 3.46 ERA and 81 strikeouts this season. In his career, Barria is 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA and 14 strikeouts against Texas.
The Texas Rangers will look to win the series after taking game two on Tuesday. Nomar Mazara led the Rangers with two RBIs coming on a pair of doubles while Adrian Beltre and Elvis Andrus each belted a solo home run. Delino DeShields added a double while Rougned Odor, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Jurickson Profar each added a base hit to round out the Rangers’ offense in the win. Mike Minor picked up the win to improve to 11-7 this season after giving up both runs on three hits while striking out seven over five innings of work. Jose Leclerc struck out a pair in the 9th for his 9th save of the season. Bartolo Colon will start game three and is 7-11 with a 5.45 ERA and 78 strikeouts this season. In his career, Colon is 12-9 with a 3.88 ERA and 118 strikeouts against the Angels.
Los Angeles is 5-2 in Barrio’s last 7 starts and 13-27 in their last 40 road games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. Texas is 2-6 in Colon’s last 8 starts and 11-5 in their last 16 home games against a team with a losing record while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 division matchups. The under is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.
The Rangers offense has woken up over the last few days quite a bit, the problem is that Colon has started to show his age again, allowing three or more runs in each of his last nine starts, including seven earned in his last start. Barria has been solid against Texas this season, allowing just two runs over 16 innings for a 2-0 record with a 1.13 ERA against the Rangers in 2018. I’ll take a shot with the Angels to get the win in the series finale on Wednesday given the pitching matchup.
