The New York Yankees and the Texas Rangers duke it out in the rubber match of their three game set in MLB action on Wednesday night.
The New York Yankees will look to bounce back after dropping game two of their series by a final score of 6-4 on Tuesday. All of New York’s damage on the scoreboard was done via the long ball as Austin Romine led the way with a two run shot while Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres each had a solo home run with Torres going 2 for 4 at the dish. Aaron Hicks, Giancarlo Stanton and Didi Gregorius each added base hits as well to round out the Yankees’ offense in the loss. Domingo German took the loss after giving up all six runs on four hits while striking out six over just 3.2 innings of work. CC Sabathia will start the finale and is 2-1 with a 2.40 ERA and 33 strikeouts this season. In his career, Sabathia is 11-6 with a 5.12 ERA and 113 strikeouts against Texas.
The Texas Rangers will look to win the set after their victory in game two on Tuesday. Jurickson Profar led the Rangers with a home run and three RBIs, while Ronald Guzman added a solo shot while going 2 for 3 and Nomar Mazara added an RBI of his own in the winning effort. Isiah Kiner-Falefa went 2 for 3 and Rougned Odor added a base knock as well to round out the offense for Texas in the win. Cole Hamels got the win to improve to 3-4 this season after giving up two runs on four hits while striking out seven over seven innings of work. Keone Kela closed out the 9th for his 9th save of the year. Doug Fister will start game three and is 1-4 with a 3.43 ERA and 33 strikeouts this season. In his career, Fister is 3-4 with a 5.56 ERA and 25 strikeouts against the Yankees.
New York is 38-18 in Sabathia’s last 56 starts against the AL West and 10-3 in their last 13 road games while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. Texas is 2-5 in Fister’s last 7 starts and 3-7 in their last 10 games overall while the over is 9-3-1 in their last 13 games against the AL East. New York is 0-4 in Sabathia’s last 4 starts against Texas.
Even at home, I’m not sure you can give a look to the plus money with Texas. Sure, Fister threw a shutout in his last start, but that was against the White Sox and the Rangers still lost that game. As a matter of fact, Fister hasn’t got the decision in any of his last seven starts. On the other hand, Sabathia hasn’t had any recent luck against the Rangers, and I’m not trying to take a shot at laying juice with that being the scenario. Instead, I’m going to side with the over as I see both offenses coming to life for the finale and the over has been quite a trend in this matchup, with it hitting in four of Sabathia’s last five starts against the Rangers.
