Oakland Athletics (9-14) at Texas Rangers (7-14)
|Date & Time||Saturday May 2, 2015, 8:05 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Texas Rangers -109 / Oakland Athletics -101 --- Over/Under: 9
The Oakland Athletics will be looking for another road win versus the Texas Rangers on Saturday.
It would be hard to argue that this Oakland Athletics team is as fearsome as we’ve seen in recent years but they did on Friday night with a seven run 8th leading to a 7-5 victory at Texas. Starter Scott Kazmir appeared to be heading for a loss with three runs plated over six frames with Fernando Abad allowing two more in 2/3 of an inning. An offense that was silent for seven innings erupted in the 8th with Mark Canha slugging a two run jack with Brett Lawrie doubling in two while Josh Reddick rapped a two run single. Left hander Drew Pomeranz draws Saturday’s start against the Rangers. Pomeranz has been struggling to go deep in to games and that trend continued in a 7-6 loss to Houston where he was charged with five runs (three earned) in five frames.
While Oakland isn’t the team they were the past several seasons the Texas Rangers have been in a slow decline and are not expected to make a return to glory anytime soon. The Rangers appeared to be heading for certain victory on Friday as they cruised in to the 8th with a 5-0 lead before the roof caved in on the pen. Colby Lewis tossed a two hit shutout over six innings before Shawn Tolleson gave up four runs with Roman Mendez allowing two more to absorb the loss. The Rangers banged out nine hits and walked twice with Prince Fielder and Kyle Blanks connecting on homers. The Rangers are hoping Nicholas Martinez continues to dominate when he makes his 5th start of 2015. Martinez has allowed just a single earned run in this stretch on 21 hits covering 26 innings.
Oakland are 1-7 in their last 8 games as a favorite and the over is 21-7-1 in their last 29 games as a favorite and is 19-7-1 in their last 27 overall. Texas are 3-12 in their last 15 Saturday games while the under is 11-3-1 in their last 15 Saturday games and is 10-4-2 in TEX last 16 home games. Oakland are 10-3 in the last 13 meetings and the over is 8-3-1 in the last 12 meetings. One of these days Martinez is going to get lit up and it could be Saturday but I’ll ride his arm once again…
