Texas Rangers -110 / Pittsburgh Pirates +100 O/U: 10
The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Texas Rangers will meet up to kick off their two-game MLB series on Tuesday.
Pittsburgh is fresh off a weekend set versus the Dodgers. The Pirates were swept in that series 6-2, 3-1 and 7-6, which adds to their losing streak standing at eight games.
For the Tuesday opener, Pittsburgh will be sending out Jordan Lyles in the start. In his 22.0 innings and 2-1 record this year, Lyles has a 2.05 ERA with 21 Ks and five walks.
Over on the Rangers’ side, they finished up against the Mariners this weekend. Texas dropped the first two games of that series 14-2 and 5-4, but then bounced back to take the final pair 15-1 and 14-1 and split the set.
Texas will be going with Adrian Sampson in the start on Tuesday. Over 22.0 innings with an 0-1 mark, Sampson has tallied a 4.50 ERA with 14 strikeouts and eight walks so far.
The Pirates are 4-1 in their last five after an off day and 0-7 in their last seven after a loss. Pittsburgh is 0-6 in their last six versus a team with a winning record and 25-8 in their last 33 interleague games.
Meanwhile, the Rangers are 6-1 in their last seven road games and 4-1 in their last five versus the NL Central. Texas is 1-5 in the last six in game one of a series and 2-5 in their last seven overall.
Lyles started out the year at a smooth clip with one earned in his first three starts over 17.0 innings, but faltered against the Diamondbacks his last time up with 5.0 innings and four earned on eight hits.
As for Sampson, he’s only got a couple of starts on his resume this year, and he allowed 15 hits over 8.1 innings in those appearances.
All things considered, I like Lyles to bounce back here and help the Pirates finally get back into the win column.
