The Line: Texas Rangers -115 / Seattle Mariners -105 --- Over/Under: 10
The Seattle Mariners and the Texas Rangers will be continuing their MLB series on Saturday from Globe Life Park.
In the Friday opener, we had a rain-shortened seven-inning game as the Rangers took an 8-3 win.
For Saturday’s game, the Mariners will be sending out Marco Gonzales for the start. Across his 155.2 innings and 12-9 mark this year, Gonzales has a 4.28 ERA with 136 Ks and 30 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Mariners this year is Jean Segura, who came into this set on 169 hits, 86 runs and 60 RBI. On Friday, Segura had a hit and an RBI.
Over on the Rangers’ side, they’re going with Mike Minor in the start Saturday. Over 152.1 innings and a 12-7 record, Minor has a 4.14 ERA with 128 Ks and 35 BBs.
Leading the way for the Rangers offense is Shin-Soo Choo, who entered this series on 144 hits, 80 runs, 21 homers and 62 RBI. In the opener, Choo had a hit and two runs.
The Mariners are 5-1 in their last six Saturday games and 1-6 in their last seven in game two of a series. Seattle is also 0-6 in Gonzales’ last six starts and 0-4 in his last four starts versus the AL West.
Meanwhile, the Rangers are 4-0 in Minor’s last four starts versus the AL West and 4-1 in his last five Saturday starts. Texas is 4-1 in Minor’s last five starts with five days’ rest and 3-7 in his last 10 starts versus a team with a winning record.
Following eight earned in 3.0 innings against Houston last month, Gonzales has calmed down a bit over his last two starts, with four combined runs in 10.0 innings. As for Minor, he’s been pitching well over his last five outings, allowing a total of seven earned runs in 29.1 innings. I like Minor to keep it going here (he’s 6-1 since the beginning of August), so I’m going Rangers.
