The St. Louis Cardinals and the Texas Rangers will meet up on the MLB circuit Friday to kick off their weekend series.

The Cardinals just finished a set against the Braves this week. St. Louis won 14-3 on Tuesday then fell 4-0 on Wednesday. In the Thursday finale, the Cardinals were down 8-2 by the seventh inning and ended up losing 10-2.

For Friday’s game, the Cardinals will be sending out Miles Mikolas in the start. Across 54.0 innings and a 4-3 mark so far, Mikolas has a 3.83 ERA with 35 Ks and 10 BBs.

Over on the Rangers’ side, they’re coming off a series versus the Royals. Texas lost on Tuesday 11-5, but then took a 6-1 victory Wednesday before drilling Kansas City 16-1 in the Thursday finale.

In the Friday matchup, the Rangers will be going with Jose Leclerc in the start. In his 15.2 innings and 1-1 mark so far, Leclerc has a 6.32 ERA with 22 Ks and 13 BBs.

The Cardinals are 4-1 in the last five in game one of a series and 0-5 in their last five Friday games. St. Louis is 16-3 in Mikolas’ last 19 starts with five days’ rest and 14-3 in his last 17 road starts.
Meanwhile, the Rangers are 7-19 in their last 26 in game one of a series and 0-7 in their last seven Friday games. The under is 3-0-1 in Texas’ last four Friday games and the over is 9-2 in their last 11 home games after a road trip of a week or more.

Mikolas has been on a nice run lately, and he’s got three straight quality starts under his belt. In those three, he’s allowed just three earned in 20.0 innings.

As for Leclerc, this will be his first start of the year, and though initially he was pretty shaky in relief he’s calmed down some with one earned in his last 5.0 innings.

Still, all things considered I think this is the Cards’ game to win.
