USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Red Sox travel to the Rogers Centre to kick off a series with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Boston Red Sox are battling issues on the mound and at the plate along with a few injuries so it’s not surprising that the wins have been far and few between. Those struggles were once again obvious in Wednesday’s 5-3 loss at Tampa Bay with starter Justin Masterson having control problems. Masterson allowed four runs on seven hits with six walks in 4.1 frames to fall to 2-1. The offense had chances on seven hits and four BB but didn’t do a whole lot of damage. Mookie Betts slugged his 5th homer with Blake Swihart and Dustin Pedroia driving in runs. Wade Miley opens the series on the mound against the Blue Jays. Miley is coming off of a 4-2 loss to the Yankees where he allowed three runs on seven hits with zero walks over seven frames.

The Toronto Blue Jays have been completely inconsistent as they have alternated between wins and losses the last few weeks. In this the arms and bats have struggled in defeats and have generally been on the same page in wins. Both were on the same page Wednesday in a 5-1 victory versus the visiting Yankees. Starter Mark Buehrle has usually struggled against New York but not this time with a run plated on six hits through five innings to up his record to 4-2. The offense provided plenty of support with 12 hits and a pair of walks that saw Russell Martin go 3-4 with a homer and two runs while Chris Colabello went 4-4 with an RBI and a pair of runs. Rookie Aaron Sanchez is tabbed for 6th start of the year and faces the Red Sox for the second time. Sanchez picked up an 11-4 win at Cleveland with two runs plated on four hits and six BB in 5.2 innings.

The over is 8-2 in Boston’s last 10 road games while the Red Sox are 7-2 in their last 9 Friday games. The Blue Jays are 19-40 in their last 59 Friday games. I don’t see this as a great betting opportunity because Miley can be night and day and Sanchez has awful control so it’s pick your poison…

Pick:
Toronto -113

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
