MLB | Boston Red Sox (56-74) at Toronto Blue Jays (66-64)

The Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox face off on Monday in Toronto for game one of their series.

The Toronto Blue Jays were in the post-season hunt for the bulk of the season but it looks like they will come up short once again this year. The Blue Jays are 34-28 at home, 3-7 in their last 10 games, and they are coming off of a loss on Sunday. As a team the Blue Jays are hitting .261 with Melky Cabrera hitting .311, Jose Reyes hitting .291, and Jose Bautista is hitting .284. The Toronto pitching staf has an ERA of 4.19 with the starters at 4.19 and the bullpen at 4.20. For game one against the Red Sox the Bule Jays start J.A. Happ who has lost his last three starts. For the season Happ has allowed 118 hits and 55 earned runs while striking out 93 over 112.2 innings for an 8-8 record and a 4.39 ERA.

The Boston Red Sox are staggering towards the end of the season playing their worst baseball of the year. The Red Sox are 27-34 on the road, 1-9 in their last 10 games, and they have lost their last eight games in a row. As a team the Red Sox are hitting .243 with Brock Holt hitting .290, Dustin Pedroia hitting .281, and David Ortiz hitting .265. The Boston pitching staff has an ERA of 3.94 with the starters at 4.25 and the bullpen at 3.31. For game one against the Jays the Red Sox start Clay Buchholz who is having his worst season since 2008. For the season Buchholz has allowed 146 hits with 81 earned runs while striking out 97 over 122.2 innings for a 5-8 record and a 5.94 ERA.

Toronto is 5-2 at home against a team with a losing record, 0-6 in game one of a series, and 5-1 in Happ’s last six starts against the AL East. Boston is 4-1 in their last five road games, 0-6 in their last six games as an underdog, and 41-20 in Buchholz’s last 61 road starts. Boston is 1-4 in their last five games in Toronto.

Both of these pitchers have been serving it up this season and both of these teams swing the bats so I look for tis ne to go well over the total and that is my free pick.
