The Toronto Blue jays and the Chicago Cubs face off on Wednesday at the Rogers Centre for game three of their interleague series.
The Toronto Blue Jays let their season get away from them but they had their way with the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. Edwin Encarnacion had three hits and Jose Bautista and Jose Reyes each had hits as the Blue Jays scored nine runs on 14 hits, Starting pitcher Mark Buehrle allowed 10 hits and two runs while striking out three over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 12-9 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Blue Jays start Drew Hutchison who has two no decisions and a win in his last three starts, For the season Hutchison has allowed 154 hits and 81 earned runs while striking out 149 over 163 innings for a 9-11 record and a 4.47 ERA.
The Chicago Cubs continue to build for the future but Toronto has been a tough place for them to be this week as they lost on Tuesday to the Blue Jays. Wellington Castillo had three hits and Javier Baez and Matt Szczur had two hits each as the Cubs scored two runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Jake Arrieta allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out five over 6.1 innings to not get a decision as Neil Ramirez blew the save and took the loss. For Wednesday’s game the Cubs start Kyle Hendricks who has lost his last five decisions. For the season Hendricks has allowed 54 hits and 14 earned runs while striking out 34 over 62.1 innings for a 6-1 record and a 2.02 ERA.
Toronto is 5-1 in their last six home games, 8-2 in their last 10 games, and 1-4 in Hutchison’s last five starts. Chicago is 4-2 in their last six interleague games, 2-6 in their last eight road games, and 7-0 in Hendricks’ last seven starts.
