The Line: Toronto Blue Jays -118 / New York Yankees +108 --- Over/Under: 9
The Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees face off on Friday at the Rogers Centre for game one of their series.
The Toronto Blue Jays are still over .500 but their playoff chances have slipped away from them. The Blue Jays are 35-30 at home, 4-6 in their last 10 games, and they are coming off of a win on Wednesday. As a team the Blue Jays are hitting .260 with Melky Cabrera hitting .308, Jose Reyes hitting .289, and Jose Bautista is hitting .283. As a team the Blue Jays pitching staff has an ERA of 4.16 with the starters at 4.12 and the bullpen at 4.23. For game one against the Yankees the Blue Jays start Mark Buehrle who has no decisions in hos last three starts. For the season Buehrle has allowed 186 hits and 61 earend runs while striking out 94 over 161 innings for an 11-8 record and a 3.41 ERA.
The New York Yankees are still in the Wildcard hunt as they are three games out from the final spot. The Yankees are 36-32 on the road, 6-4 in their last 10 games, and they are coming off of a loss against Detroit on Thursday. As a team the Yankees are hitting .251 with Ichiro Suzuki hitting .288, Jacoby Ellsbury hitting .285, and Bret Gardener hitting .268, and Derek Jeter hitting .265. The Yankees pitching staff has an ERA of 3.84 with the starters at 3.81 and the bullpen at 3.88. For game one against the Blue Jays the Yankees start Chris Capuano who is still looking for his first win as a Yankee. Since joining the Yankees Capuano has allowed 38 hits and 17 earned runs while striking out 37 over 36.1 innings for a 0-2 record and a 4.21 ERA.
Toronto is 4-10 in their last 14 games, 0-5 following an off day, and 8-3 in Buehrle’s last 11 home starts. New York is 6-3 in their last nine games, 5-1 as an underdog, and 6-13 against the AL East. New York is 22-10 in the last 32 meetings of these two.
Capuano is still unplayable at this point no matter how bad the Jays have been playing so it’s Toronto for me in this one.
