The Line: Toronto Blue Jays -166 / Oakland Athletics +156 --- Over/Under: 8
The Oakland Athletics collide with the Toronto Blue Jays in MLB baseball action on Wednesday.
The Oakland Athletic are still alive for a Wild Card on paper but they can’t string anything together for any significant time. The Athletics continued to struggle with losses in four of five following a 4-1 defeat at Toronto on Tuesday. A’s starter Sonny Gray was charged with four unearned runs on five hits and a pair of free passes over 6.2 innings of work. Oakland was limited to six hits and two walks with Khris Davis doubling twice and driving in Matt Joyce who doubled and singled. Rookie Paul Blackburn is scheduled to make his 4th straight start for the Oakland Athletics for Wednesday’s bout at the Toronto Blue Jays. Blackburn suffered a 7-4 defeat at the New York Mets last time out with four runs allowed on six hits in 5.1 frames.
The Toronto Blue Jays have been struggling with consistency and the team knows they need a long hot streak to salvage the season. Despite their victory on Tuesday night, the Blue Jays have dropped seven of eleven and desperately need to rack up some wins. Jays starter Cesar Valdez gave the team a huge boost with the lone run plated on five hits and a walk through six innings pitched to pick up the win. Toronto did their damage on six hits and four bases on balls with Ryan Goins knocking in a pair on a double while Troy Tulowitzki going 2-4 with a run driven in.The Toronto Blue Jays are hoping Marco Estrada rights the ship when he toes the rubber versus the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday. Estrada has been charged with 15 runs the last three trips to the mound on 16 hits and eleven walks in 13 frames.
Oakland are 18-37 in their last 55 road games and Oakland are 19-40 in their last 59 road games versus a team with a losing record while Oakland are 2-5 in their last 7 overall. Toronto are 2-7 in their last 7 overall and 2-7 in their last 9 versus a team with a losing record while Toronto are 1-4 in Estrada’s last 5 starts. Oakland are 1-9 in the last 10 meetings in Toronto.
Estrada has been struggling for awhile and unless he suddenly reverse the trend I would think Oakland scores a few runs despite possessing a scary bad offense…
