The Line: Toronto Blue Jays -115 / Oakland Athletics +105 --- Over/Under: 9
The Toronto Blue Jays and the Oakland A’s face off on Sunday in Toronto as they continue their series.
The Toronto Blue Jays bounced back from Friday’s loss to the A’s by beating them on Saturday. Jose Bautista had three hits including his 27th home run of the year, Jose Reyes hit a home run, and Colby Rasmus had a hit as the Blue Jays turned five hits into five runs. Starting pitcher Mark Buehrle allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out five over 5.1 innings to get the win and go to 8-7 on the year and Casey Janssen earned his 21st save. For Sunday’s game the Blue Jays start R.A> Dickey who is coming off of a win in his last start. For the season Dickey has allowed 147 hits and 77 earned runs while striking out 116 over 154.1 innings for a 9—11 record and a 4.49 ERA.
The Oakland Athletics rallied late on Saturday but came up short as they fell to the Blue Jays in Toronto. Josh Reddick hit two home runs, Derek Norris had three hits, and Yoenis Cespedes and Josh Donaldson each had two hits as the A;s scored four runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Sonny Gray allowed four hits and four runs while striking out five over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-1 on the season. For Sunday’s game the A’s start A.J. Griffin who has won five of his last seven decisions. For the season Griffin has allowed 130 hits and 64 earned runs while striking out 118 over 147.1 innings for a 10-8 record and a 3.91 ERA.
Toronto is 9-20 in their last 29 games against a team with a winning record, 4-12 in their last 16 games following a win, and 6-2 in Dickey’s last eight starts against a team with a winning record. Oakland is 7-1 in their last eight games as a road favorite, 1-5 in their last six games overall, and 6-2 in Griffin’s last eight starts. Oakland is 2-6 in the last eight meetings of these two.
The odds makers have this one at close to a toss up and it shapes up to be close. The A’s just are not playing well lately so I am going to go with the Blue Jays at home in what is a lean at best.
