The Line: Tampa Bay Rays -141 / Toronto Blue Jays +120 -- Over/Under: 8
The Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays meet Sunday in MLB action at Rogers Centre.
The Tampa Bay Rays look for another victory after winning six of their last eight games. The Rays have scored 21 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in eight of their last 11 games. The Tampa Bay Rays are 11-1 this season when scoring more than one run. Austin Meadows leads the Rays with 20 hits and 16 RBI while Tommy Pham and Avisail Garcia have combined for 31 hits and 11 RBI. Charlie Morton gets the ball, and he is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA and 21 strikeouts this season. Morton is 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA and 23 strikeouts in his career against the Blue Jays.
The Toronto Blue Jays could use a win after losing six of their last eight games. The Blue Jays have scored 16 runs in their last three games and three or less runs in six of their last 10 games. The Toronto Blue Jays are 3-8 this season when scoring five or less runs. Freddy Galvis leads the Blue Jays with 18 hits and nine RBI while Teoscar Hernandez and Randal Grichuk have combined for 20 hits and 12 RBI. Marcus Stroman gets the ball, and he is 0-2 with a 2.41 ERA and 18 strikeouts this season. Stroman is 5-5 with a 4.58 ERA and 62 strikeouts in his career against the Rays.
The Rays are 9-0 in their last 9 Sunday games, 16-5 in their last 21 road games and 37-17 in their last 54 during game 3 of a series. The Blue Jays are 0-4 in their last 4 Sunday games, 1-4 in Stroman's last 5 home starts and 0-5 in Stroman's last 5 starts. The Rays are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings and the Blue Jays are 2-5 in Stroman's last 7 home starts vs. Rays. The under is 4-0 in Stroman's last 4 home starts. The under is 9-4-1 in Rays last 14 overall.
Stroman is showing flashes of returning to the pitcher he was a couple of years ago, he just needs to clean up the walks. Morton falls in line with pretty much every Rays pitcher this season, just complete dominance and somebody you don't want to bet against. That's the approach I've taken with these Tampa Bay Rays. They're just not a team I'm trying to step in front of, and a loss here and there isn't going to scare me off that approach. As long as the prices are reasonable, I'm going to back the Rays with them being in this current form.
