The Line: Tampa Bay Rays / Toronto Blue Jays -- Over/Under:
The Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays meet Saturday in MLB action at Rogers Centre.
The Tampa Bay Rays look for a win after splitting their last six games. The Rays have scored 10 runs in their last three games and three or less runs in seven of their last 10 games. The Tampa Bay Rays have lost six of their last eight games when scoring three or less runs. Tommy Pham leads the Rays with 103 hits and 45 RBI while Avisail Garcia and Austin Meadows have combined for 186 hits and 93 RBI. The Tampa Bay Rays didn’t list a starting pitcher at the time this article was published.
The Toronto Blue Jays look for a win after losing six of their last nine games. The Blue Jays have scored three runs in their last three games and three or less runs in their last five games. The Toronto Blue Jays have lost six of their last seven games when scoring three or less runs. Freddy Galvis leads the Blue Jays with 104 hits and 48 RBI while Randal Grichuk and Eric Sogard have combined for 169 hits and 73 RBI. Ryan Borucki gets the ball, and he is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA and three strikeouts this season. Borucki is 0-3 with a 3.66 ERA and 15 strikeouts in his career against the Rays.
The Rays are 4-1 in their last 5 road games vs. a left-handed starter, 1-5 in their last 6 vs. American League East and 0-5 in their last 5 during game 2 of a series. The Blue Jays are 4-0 in their last 4 during game 2 of a series, 4-1 in their last 5 Saturday games and 1-6 in Boruckis last 7 starts. The Rays are 19-7 in the last 26 meetings and the over is 5-2-2 in the last 9 meetings. The under is 3-1-2 in Boruckis last 6 starts overall. The under is 3-1-1 in Rays last 5 road games.
Borucki has just 4.2 innings under his belt this season and that's simply not enough of a sample size to assume how he's going to hold up here. The Toronto Blue Jays are back to piling up the losses and the offense has done little to nothing over the last week. The Tampa Bay Rays have had issues scoring in their own right, but this season has suggested that they find ways to win regardless, and they need to take advantage of games like this against lesser teams if they're going to stay in the thick of the playoff race. I'll back the Rays simply due to being a much more trustworthy team.
