|Date & Time||Friday August 10, 2018, 7:07 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Toronto Blue Jays +105 / Tampa Bay Rays -115 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays meet Friday in MLB action at the Rogers Centre.
The Tampa Bay Rays look for a spark of consistency here after splitting their last 10 games. The Rays have scored 13 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in eight of their last 10 games. The Tampa Bay Rays have won five of their last seven games when scoring more than two runs. Matt Duffy leads the Rays with 115 hits and 32 RBI while Mallex Smith and C.J. Cron have combined for 192 hits and 82 RBI. Blake Snell gets the ball, and he is 12-5 with a 2.27 ERA and 137 strikeouts this season. Snell is 2-2 with a 4.62 ERA and 21 strikeouts in his career against the Blue Jays.
The Toronto Blue Jays could also use a win here after splitting their last eight games. The Blue Jays have scored 20 runs in their last three games and five or more runs in six of their last seven games. The Toronto Blue Jays have won five of their last seven games when scoring more than three runs. Yangervis Solarte leads the Blue Jays with 101 hits and 53 RBI while Justin Smoak and Kevin Pillar have combined for 192 hits and 100 RBI. Marco Estrada gets the ball, and he is 5-8 with a 4.65 ERA and 74 strikeouts this season. Estrada is 1-8 with a 4.54 ERA and 70 strikeouts in his career against the Rays.
The Rays are 4-1 in their last 5 during game 1 of a series, 7-20 in their last 27 road games and 0-5 in their last 5 Friday games. The Blue Jays are 6-0 in their last 6 Friday games, 3-7 in Estradas last 10 Friday starts and 2-5 in Estradas last 7 starts with 5 days of rest. The Blue Jays are 0-4 in Estradas last 4 home starts vs. Rays, 1-8 in Estradas last 9 starts vs. Rays and the Rays are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings in Toronto.
The Tampa Bay Rays have been good fade material on the road the last couple of months and the Blue Jays offense has come to life all of a sudden. Estrada has been hit or miss and has struggled at home, but he's coming off a great performance against the Seattle Mariners and has allowed two or less runs in six of his last eight starts. I can't pick the Rays on the road. I'll take the Toronto Blue Jays at home for the cheap price with a pitcher who has been rather solid recently.
