The Line: Toronto Blue Jays +113 / Tampa Bay Rays -123 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Tampa Bay Rays will visit the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on Tuesday in MLB activity.
In the Monday opener of this set, the Rays scored three runs in the second inning on the way to a 7-1 victory, out-hitting Toronto 11-4 on the night.
For Tuesday’s game, the Rays will be going with RHP Ryne Stanek. Over his 56.1 innings and 2-3 record this year, Stanek has a 2.72 ERA with 68 Ks.
Tops in hitting for the Rays this year is Matt Duffy. Coming into this set, Duffy had 132 hits, 49 runs and 37 RBI. On Monday, Duffy snagged two hits, two RBI and a run.
Over on the Jays’ side, they will be sending out Ryan Borucki on Tuesday. In his 63.2 innings and 3-3 mark this year, Borucki has a 4.52 ERA with 40 Ks and 21 BBs.
Toronto’s hits leader is Justin Smoak, who entered this series on 112 hits, 60 runs, 23 homers and 70 RBI. In the opener, Smoak came up empty.
The Rays are 5-0 in their last five versus the AL East and 4-0 in their last four in game two of a series. Tampa is 5-0 in their last five versus a team with a losing record and 8-3 in their last 11 Tuesday games.
Meanwhile, the Jays are 6-2 in their last eight home games and 4-10 in their last 14 versus a team with a winning record. Toronto is 4-9 in their last 13 Tuesday games and 2-6 in their last eight overall.
This will be Stanek’s second straight “start” following his one inning Monday. In that opening role, Stanek has a 2.67 ERA. As for Borucki, he’ll be making his first career start here, following a tough game in that role against the Orioles. It’s a weird pitching matchup for sure, so I’m just going to go with the hot-hitting Rays.
