The Line: Toronto Blue Jays -205 / Texas Rangers +190 --- Over/Under: 9
Coming up Sunday from Rogers Centre, the Texas Rangers and the Toronto Blue Jays will be finishing up their MLB series.
In the Friday opener, the Rangers took a 6-4 win. On Saturday, Texas rushed out to a 5-0 lead and then held on for a 7-4 victory.
For the Sunday game, the Rangers will be bringing out LHP Martin Perez. In his 18.1 innings and 2-2 mark this year, Perez has a 9.82 ERA with 11 Ks and eight BBs.
Heading into the weekend, the Rangers’ leading hitter was Nomar Mazara with 29 hits, 14 runs and 12 RBI. On Saturday, Mazara put up one hit and a strikeout while Shin-Soo Choo put up three hits and three RBI.
Over on the Jays’ side, they’re going with LHP JA Happ. In his 29.0 innings and 3-1 record this season, Happ has a 3.72 ERA with 41 Ks and seven walks.
Toronto’s top hitter coming into the weekend was Kevin Pillar with 28 hits, 15 runs and 11 RBI. In the Saturday game, Pillar ripped a pair of solo homers.
The Rangers are 5-13 in their last 18 Sunday games and 4-1 in Perez’s last five starts with six days’ rest. Texas is also 11-4 in Perez’s last 15 starts and 5-2 in his last seven road starts.
Meanwhile, the Blue Jays are 4-1 in their last five Sunday games and 4-0 in Happ’s last four starts with four days’ rest. Toronto is also 4-0 in Happ’s last four starts and 12-3 in his last 15 Sunday starts.
Perez had a couple of rough starts going there (15 earned in 7.0 innings), but was good in his last outing with two earned in 6.0 innings. Happ, meanwhile, has been somewhat choppy but is coming off a really nice start versus Boston. I’m going to go with Happ to stay strong here and help the Jays get a win.
