The Line: Washington Nationals -117 / Arizona Diamondbacks +107 --- Over/Under: 8
Out at Nationals Park on Sunday, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Washington Nationals will be finishing up their weekend MLB series.
In the Friday game, the Diamondbacks eked out a 5-4 win. On Saturday, we had another close one, ending with a 10-inning victory for Arizona 4-3.
For Sunday’s matchup, the Diamondbacks will be sending out LHP Robbie Ray. In his 26.1 innings and 2-0 record this year, Ray has a 5.13 ERA with 43 Ks and 17 BBs.
The leading hitter for the D-Backs coming into the weekend was AJ Pollock, with 26 hits, 17 runs and 19 RBI. On Saturday, Pollock had a hit and two RBI.
Over on the Nationals’ side, they’re going with lefty Gio Gonzalez on Sunday. In his 26.2 innings and 2-2 record this season, Gonzalez has a 3.04 ERA with 29 Ks and 12 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Nats entering play this weekend was Tre Turner with his 29 hits, 13 runs and six RBI. In the Saturday game, Turner went hitless but did score a run. Ryan Zimmerman put up a homer, a double and two RBI.
The Diamondbacks are 4-1 in their last five Sunday games and 16-5 in their last 21 during game three of a series. Arizona is also 4-1 in Ray’s last five Sunday starts and 20-6 in his last 26 starts.
Meanwhile, the Nats are 1-4 in their last five Sunday games and 3-8 in their last 11 during game three of a series. Washington is also 1-4 in Gonzalez’s last five starts with five days’ rest and 1-5 in his last six home starts.
Ray has been reasonably solid over his last four starts or so, but he hasn’t made it past the fifth inning in two of his last three. Gonzalez has been decent as well, but did give up three earned in 5.0 innings his last time out. Still, I think Gonzalez can come out and pitch well here to help the Nats get a win.
