MLB | Arizona Diamondbacks (53-71) at Washington Nationals (69-53)

The Washington Nationals and the Arizona Diamondbacks face off on Monday in Washington for game one of their series.

The Washington Nationals continue to lead the NL East as they look to put the Braves away with 40 games left to play in the regular season. The Nationals are 37-24 at home, 8-2 in their last 10 games, and they have won their last six games in a row. As a team the nationals are hitting .250 with Denard Span hitting .303, Jayson Werth hitting .281, and Anthony Redon hitting .275. The Nationals pitching staff has an ERA of 3.08 with the starters at 3.23 and the bullpen at 2.78. For game one against the Diamondbacks the Nats start Jordan Zimmerman who has won his last two decisions. For the season Zimmerman has allowed 146 hits and 47 earned runs while striking out 130 over 144.2 innings for an 8-5 record and a 2.92 ERA.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have struggled all season long and at this point they are just playing out the season. Arizona is 28-32 on the road, 4-6 in their last 10 games, and they have lost their last two. As a team the Diamondbacks are hitting .252 with Davis Peralta hitting .292, Miguel Montero hitting .256, and Aaron Hill hitting .245. The Diamondbacks pitching staff has an ERA of 4.22 with the starters at 4.46 and the bullpen at 3.77. For game one at Washington the Diamondbacks start Vidal Nuno who hasn’t won since being traded by the Yankees. Since being traded Nuno has allowed 36 hits and 17 earned runs while striking out 31 over 39 innings for a 0-3 record and a 3.92 ERA.

Washington is 10-4 against a left-handed starter, 2-5 in game one of a series, and 37-17 in Zimmerman’s last 54 home starts. Arizona is 2-5 against a team with a winning record, 2-7 as an underdog, and 0-7 in Nuno’s last seven starts. Arizona is 4-10 in their last 14 games against Washington.

Washington is a big favorite here and they should be as they win easily.
