In a nationally-televised game from Nationals Park on Wednesday, the Atlanta Braves will be visiting the Washington Nationals in MLB activity.
In the doubleheader opener on Tuesday, we had a split as the Nats took one 8-3 and the Braves got one 3-1.
For Wednesday’s game, the Braves will be sending out Mike Foltynewicz for the start. In his 118.1 innings and 8-7 record this year, Foltynewicz has a 3.04 ERA with 138 Ks and 49 BBs.
Nick Markakis had a small margin on the Braves hits lead entering this set, with 135 hits, 62 runs, 13 homers and 68 RBI. On Tuesday, Markakis had a combined four hits, one RBI and one run.
As for the Nats, they’re sending out Tommy Milone on Wednesday. Across his 12.0 innings and 1-0 record this year, Milone has a 3.00 ERA with 15 Ks and no walks.
Tops in hitting for the Nats this season is Trea Turner, who came into this set on 119 hits, 68 runs, 14 homers and 47 RBI. On Tuesday, Turner logged three hits an RBI and a run in one game and an 0-for-3 line in the other.
The Braves are 19-9 in their last 28 in game three of a series and 2-6 in their last eight Wednesday games. Atlanta is also 4-0 in Foltynewicz’s last four starts with five days’ rest and 5-11 in his last 16 road starts.
Meanwhile, the Nats are 7-0 in Milone’s last seven starts and 6-0 in his last six starts versus the NL East. The under is 5-1 in Washington’s last six Wednesday games and 11-5 in their last 16 in game three of a series.
Foltynewicz had a sketchy run of four starts going last month (with 18 combined earned runs between them) but pitched well against the Mets his last time up. As for Milone, he’s given up a total of four earned in his two starts this year, including one earned against the Mets. I’m not totally sold on Foltynewicz right now, so I’m going Nationals here despite Milone’s limited action.
