The Line: Washington Nationals -280 / Baltimore Orioles +255 --- Over/Under: 7
Coming up Thursday from Nationals Park, we’ve got MLB action as the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Nationals finish up their series.
The Nationals took a wild 9-7 victory in the Tuesday opener, then on Wednesday after a rain delay Baltimore banged out a 3-0 win.
For Thursday’s game, the Orioles will be going with RHP Kevin Gausman. In his 82.1 innings and 3-6 mark this season, Gausman has a 4.48 ERA with 81 Ks.
Coming into game two, Adam Jones and Manny Machado were tied for the Orioles’ hits lead with 83. On Wednesday, Jones had two hits with a run and Machado went 1-for-4.
Over on the Nats’ side, they’re going with RHP Max Scherzer on Thursday. Across his 100.2 innings and 10-3 record this year, Scherzer has a 2.06 ERA with 152 Ks and 23 BBs.
Trea Turner led the Nats in hitting coming into Wednesday with 76 hits, 39 runs and 26 RBI. In game two, Turner had one hit.
The Orioles are 2-5 in their last seven Thursday games and 5-22 in their last 27 in game three of a series. The over is 5-2 in the O’s last seven Thursday games and they’re 12-41 in their last 53 road games.
Meanwhile, the Nats are 6-1 in Scherzer’s last seven starts with four days’ rest and 15-5 in his last 20 home starts. Washington is also 26-9 in Scherzer’s last 35 starts in game three of a series and 45-18 in his last 63 starts.
Scherzer is sitting on four straight quality starts, but he’s also sitting on two straight losses. Washington hasn’t done him any favors on offense in those games, failing to score in both and ruining a pair of otherwise solid outings. If Scherzer drops another game here, it’ll be his first time losing three straight since August of 2015. That said, I don’t think the Nats will let him down again. I’ll take Washington.
