The Boston Red Sox and Washington Nationals meet Monday in MLB action at Nationals Park.
The Boston Red Sox look for a bounce back victory after winning seven of their last 10 games. The Red Sox have scored 13 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in seven of their last 10 games. The Boston Red Sox have won eight straight games when scoring more than two runs. J.D. Martinez leads the Red Sox with 100 hits and 67 RBI while Andrew Benintendi and Mookie Betts have combined for 173 hits and 94 RBI. Rick Porcello gets the ball, and he is 9-3 with a 3.60 ERA and 99 strikeouts this season. This will be Porcello’s second career game against the Nationals.
The Washington Nationals could use a victory here after losing five of their last six games. The Nationals have allowed 14 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in seven of their last nine games. The Washington Nationals have lost seven of their last nine games when allowing at least three runs. Offensively, Trea Turner leads the Nationals with 90 hits and 29 RBI while Anthony Rendon and Bryce Harper have combined for 131 hits and 85 RBI. Max Scherzer gets the ball, and he is 10-4 with a 2.04 ERA and 165 strikeouts this season. Scherzer is 4-4 with a 6.05 ERA and 53 strikeouts in his career against the Red Sox.
The Red Sox are 4-1 in their last 5 Monday games, 9-4 in Porcellos last 13 road starts and 11-1 in Porcellos last 12 interleague starts. The Nationals are 14-4 in their last 18 Monday games, 16-5 in Scherzers last 21 home starts and 46-19 in Scherzers last 65 starts. The Red Sox are 2-5 in the last 7 meetings and the over is 9-2 in the last 11 meetings.
We all know Scherzer is one of the top pitchers in baseball, has been lights out yet again this season and should be favored in nearly every game he pitches. The Boston Red Sox are also in a tough spot after playing late Sunday night and now having to travel and play less than 20 hours later. However, this price is simply insane, especially when you factor in the Red Sox are the better team, in better form and Porcello is no slouch. Also, the Nats aren't playing great team baseball and have lost three of the last four times Scherzer has pitched. Based on value alone, the Red Sox and the crazy plus money is worth a shot here.
