Chicago Cubs -135 / Washington Nationals +115 -- O/U: 10
The Chicago Cubs and the Washington Nationals meet in the rubber match of their three game set from Nationals Park in MLB action in this week’s edition of Sunday Night Baseball.
The Chicago Cubs will look to bounce back after dropping game two on Saturday by a final score of 5-2. David Bote had a solo home run while Jason Heyward added an RBI of his own to round out Chicago’s scoring as a team in the losing effort. Jon Lester took the loss, falling to 3-2 on the year after allowing all five runs on ten hits over 4.1 innings of work. Kyle Hendricks will start the finale and is 3-4 with a 2.86 ERA and 41 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hendricks is 2-2 with a 2.61 ERA and 32 strikeouts against Washington.
The Washington Nationals will look to build on their win on Saturday that tied up the series at one win apiece. Juan Soto went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs while Brian Dozier went 2 for 4 with a solo home run and Howie Kendrick had a double and an RBI to round out Washington’s scoring in the win. Adam Eaton and Anthony Rendon each had two hits with Rendon adding a double as well. Trea Turner and Michael A. Taylor each had a base hit as well to round out Washington’s offense as a team in the win. Stephen Strasburg got the win to improve to 4-3 on the year after allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits while striking out seven over eight innings of work. Sean Doolittle closed out the 9th for his 8th save of the season. Jeremy Hellickson will start the finale and is 2-2 with a 6.00 ERA and 29 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hellickson is 1-1 with a 6.06 ERA and 9 strikeouts against the Cubs.
Chicago is 4-1 in Hendricks’ last 5 starts and 21-7 in their last 28 games overall while the under is 5-1 in Hendricks’ last 6 road starts. Washington is 1-4 in Hellickson’s last 5 starts and 7-15 in their last 22 games overall while the over is 30-14-3 in their last 47 home games. Chicago is 4-0 in Hendricks’ last 4 starts against Washington and 4-1 in Hendricks’ last 5 road starts against Washington.
The plus money with Washington is tempting considering how Washington’s bats woke up on Saturday. However, Hellickson has had his issues lately, giving up at least five runs in four of his last five starts. Hendricks on the other hand, has allowed one run or less in four of his last five starts, going at least seven innings in each of those starts. I just think the Cubs hold a huge pitching advantage on Sunday, and the price isn’t too bad, so I’ll lay the juice with the Cubs for the series win in this spot.
