Washington Nationals -175 / Colorado Rockies +155
The Colorado Rockies and the Washington Nationals meet in MLB action from Nationals Park on Tuesday night.
The Colorado Rockies will look to build some momentum after Monday’s opener was postponed and moved to Wednesday as part of a doubleheader. The Rockies last played on Sunday, picking up an 8-4 win over the Yankees. David Dahl, Trevor Story and Nolan Arenado each had two RBIs with Story adding a pair of doubles while Arenado had a two-bagger of his own. Charlie Blackmon went 4 for 5 with a solo home run and a double to cap off Colorado’s scoring as a team in the win while Daniel Murphy added a base hit as well. German Marquez got the win to improve to 9-5 on the year after allowing two runs on three hits while striking out five over seven innings of work. Peter Lambert will start on Tuesday and is 2-1 with a 6.06 ERA and 23 strikeouts this season. This will be Lambert’s first career start against Washington.
The Washington Nationals will look to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last eight games following a 7-1 loss in their series finale against Atlanta on Sunday. Gerardo Parra accounted for the lone Washington RBI while Kurt Suzuki went 2 for 3. Joe Ross, Brian Dozier and Ryan Zimmerman each had a base hit as the Nats had just six hits, with none of them going for extra bases in the loss. Ross fell to 0-2 in the defeat, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out six over 5.1 innings of work. Stephen Strasburg will make the start on Tuesday and is 12-4 with a 3.52 ERA and 151 strikeouts this season. In his career, Strasburg is 5-4 with a 4.07 ERA and 68 strikeouts against Colorado.
Colorado is 0-5 in Lambert’s last 5 starts and 3-13 in their last 16 games overall while the under is 4-1-1 in their last 6 games against the NL East. Washington is 42-12 in Strasburg’s last 54 starts against a team with a losing record and 20-8 in their last 28 games overall while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 home games. Colorado is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings between these two teams and 7-2 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams in Washington.
The plus money would be worth a look given that Colorado has a lot of potential offensively, and that a lot of Lambert’s struggles have come at home where his ERA is under eight as opposed to on the road where he has an ERA of just 3.00. However, the Rockies have lost each of Lambert’s last five starts while Strasburg has won each of his last five starts and has gone 8-1 in his last 9. The Nationals remain one of the hottest teams in the majors over the last month as well, so I’ll lay the juice with the Nationals in this spot.
